KALE SMOOTHIE

My favorite green smoothie…I basically throw my favorite fruits and vegetables into the blender, add water and seeds and hit smoothie two times. It takes me less than five minutes to make one incredible tasting breakfast for my husband and me.

 Ingredients:

2 cups from a combination package of frozen peaches, strawberries, pineapple, honeydew mellon and blueberries

1 cup Pineapple Chunks, frozen

2 Bananas, frozen, whole

2 Tablespoon Chia Seeds

2 Tablespoon Hemp Seeds

2 Tablespoon Flax Seeds

20 ounces Water, divided

2 cups Kale, heaping

Directions:

Everything goes into the blender together, including the water. With my Blendtec, all I need to do is hit smoothie and it is done to perfection in less than a minute. Whatever blender you use, you will be able to see when the consistency is perfect. It will look smooth and totally blended just like a milkshake.

Hemp, Flax and Chia Seeds

Two Tablespoons Hemp Seed:

Hemp Seed health benefits is a long one! There are so many it would be foolish not to run out to the store this instant to buy them.  A 1.5 tablespoon serving of hemp seeds contains five grams of protein, 86 milligrams of magnesium, 10 percent the daily value of iron, 1245 milligrams of Omega 3 fatty acids and 436 milligrams of Omega-6 fatty acids.

Two Tablespoons Flax Seed:

Flax is a great source of fiber. Most Americans do not get enough fiber in their diet. Each tablespoon of flax contains about 8 grams of fiber. Flax is a plant source of omega-3 which again, most Americans are short on their omega-3 fatty acids.  It also contains lignans which reduce the risk of breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. As if this wasn’t enough, flax  has been shown to reduce hot flashes in menopausal women. To reap the benefits, this requires a daily dose of 2 tablespoons.

Two Tablespoons Chia Seed:

Chia Seeds contains calcium, manganese, and phosphorus, and is a great source of healthy omega-3 fats. As an added benefit, chia seeds can be eaten whole or milled and don’t need to be ground like Flax. The chia seeds are “super” because, they deliver the maximum amount of nutrients with minimum calories.  The nutritional benefits of chia include fiber, omega fatty acids, calcium, antioxidants and even protein.  Chia absorbs up to 12 times its own weight and expands to curb your appetite, so adding just an ounce or so of chia seeds to your diet can reduce caloric intake and help lower the energy density (or calories) of foods, plus double the amount of fiber you receive.  Contributing to its super-seed status, ounce for ounce, chia seeds have more omega-3 fatty acids than salmon! Chia is one of the most concentrated sources of omega-3 in any food. It also contains high amounts of omega-6.  They also support heart health and beautiful skin, hair and nails.

Google the seeds to see how your body will benefit from adding them to your diet.  A smoothie is an excellent way to get these nutrients in your diet…you can’t even tell they are there.

The kale wasn’t being pulled down into the mixture well enough so I added another 1/2 cup of water.

What a difference adding a little more water makes…you can see how it is becoming totally blended now.

This Blendtec is amazing.  When we made this initial investment, we were hoping that it would get used often but we never realized that we would end up using it every single morning…and that we would love juicing so much.

This makes two full 16 ounce glasses of juice and a little left over that I keep in the fridge.  When I get tired and starving around 3:00 in the afternoon, this is the perfect pick me up.

This is my favorite green drink.  And while I will admit that maybe this isn’t one of the most beautiful and appetizing looking smoothies in the world…it is one of the best tasting…wait until you try it!
