BLOGGING – BREAKFAST FOR NOKIE

Last night Noel, better known as Nokie, said to her grandfather…Bumpa, will you make me an egg tomorrow for breakfast?  My husband (also known as Bumpa) response was sure, what kind of egg do you want?  And Nokie, without even hesitating said…mind you she is only six years…I want an egg in the shape of a crown,  you hugging me and you telling me “I love you” in a bubble…and, Twobuck and Bachelli howling (our two dogs) out of toast?  And because Bumpa is the amazing grandpa that he is…he said sure!  With a small paring knife in hand this is the results of their combined creativity.

Ingredients:

Breakfast, three pieces toasted

Butter, 1 Tablespoon

Egg, one

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

You will have to follow this one step by step

Started off toasting two…no three pieces of bread. This is going to take a lot of bread!

After cutting off the crust, he made the bubble.

The bubble is made and the “I” is inside.

A heart for “love”

A “U ‘ for you…then onto her special blue plate. Is this the ultimate Blue Plate Special?? 🙂

This part actually impressed me…he carved out himself and Nokie out of the second piece of bread.

My husband is quite amazing, I must say…he even made her long hair, with the bubble above his head that says…I love you.

The butter goes in the cast iron skillet.

The picture on the right is a bit blurry, but he is using a pastry brush to add melted butter to the crown cookie cutter to help keep the egg from sticking.

Cracking the egg into the crown in the skillet.

Holding the yolk in place for just a few seconds, so it stays centered in the middle of the cookie cutter…My husband tends to be a perfectionist, you think?! (Notice the strawberry sticker on the back of his hand…perfectionist or not, what a good grandpa).

While the egg is cooking, he makes one small heart out of the toast…because every single breakfast he has ever made her has had a heart on it.  Then with the last of the toast, he cut out two dogs…howling. How he did this I have no idea!

Salt and pepper the egg, then with a small paring knife cut away any white of the egg to “neat it up” and make it pretty.

Time to flip the egg over.

IMG_7208

If you are using cast iron, after you flip the egg, just take it off the heat and in just a couple of minutes it will be done to perfection.

The egg is on the plate, Bumpa hugging Nokie and saying I love you…a little heart on the egg, always over the yoke…and Twobuck and Bachelli howling.  How cute is that?

Just a little side note…for years we have named our dogs after wine…thus Twobuck, for Twobuck Chuck and Bachelli after Santa Bachelli Chianti.

Nokie loves to sit at the table with her hands over her eyes, to be surprised when she gets to see her Bumpa’s work of art.

To see her smile was worth the work!

Stay tuned for the next amazing adventures of our granddaughters wonderful imagination.
